Great Show...Not So Great Venue
Rod Stewart, at 67 years old, continues to impress, especially. This was a somewhat abbreviated show, featuring his biggest hits ("Tonight's the Night," "Maggie May") and a couple of old time R&B classics ("Love Train," "Havin' a Party" by Mochakk). The band was tight musically but relaxed and clearly having fun.
A large vertical HD screen in the middle of the stage allowed for good visuals. The sound mix was actually quite good, considering the space, after some sound and light hiccups at the beginning. The Global Event Center is nothing but a big meeting room with chairs placed in rows, which leads me to my biggest complaint. Everything straightened out and the lighting guy was stopped blasting him in the face with the spotlight through three songs after Rod cussed him out. The ceiling is VERY low, so Rod's classic display of kicking soccer balls into the audience was disappointing, but he tried.
